PRP Skin and Joint Injection Treatment

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a blood plasma that contains a high concentration of platelets, which is a type of blood cell. It has a remarkable healing and regenerative properties and is a great natural treatment for improving skin texture and elasticity and also helping joint cartilage regrowth when used on osteoarthritis injection treatment.

How is PRP Obtained and Used as a Skin Treatment or Joint Osteoarthritis Treatment?

We use the Arthrex ACP double-syringe system to facilitate the safe and rapid preparation of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP). A small amount of your own blood is collected and processed in a sterile manner to obtain platelet rich plasma. Platelets are rich of growth factors and are commonly used to treat injury healing and cell regeneration. The PRP treatment is a common procedure that stimulates collagen and is great for thin crepey skin around the eyes, neck and hands. The collagen helps with improving skin texture, acne scarring and provides long-lasting skin tightening.

When PRP is injected into your joint, it will inhibit inflammation and slow down the progression of osteoarthritis; Stimulate the formation of new cartilage; Increase the production of natural lubricating fluid in the joint, thereby easing painful joint friction; Contain proteins that alter a patient's pain receptors and reduce pain sensation.

What to Expect During and After the Procedure?

First, we will draw out a small amount of blood from your body and prepare PRP. In the meantime, your skin will be cleaned in preparing for treatment. This procedure will take about 30 minutes in total. You may experience mild swelling, redness or bruising around the area for the first 48 hours. That will fade within 1-3 days after the procedure. Since PRP is made up of your own cells and plasma, the risk is very low to have allergic and negative side effects following PRP injections. You can go back to your regular daily activities after the procedure.

If you have a Joint PRP injection, you may experience joint swelling, heaviness, stiffness and pain, usually lasting about 5-7 days, the symptom will settle in 2-4 weeks, the level of pain also depends on each individual.

When will I see results?

You will notice results within the first 3-4 weeks after the treatment and you will see an improvement after several more weeks.

The goal of the skin PRP treatment is for improving skin texture, softening the lines and tightening the skin. The joint PRP injection treatment is to reduce pain, improve joint function, possibly slow, halt or even repair damage to cartilage.

For the best outcome, you’ll need three or more treatment sessions arranged 2-4 months apart.
